PEORIA, Ariz. -- Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said Saturday it would be "hard pressed" for either Hisashi Iwakuma or Taijuan Walker to be in the Mariners rotation on opening day because of their injury setbacks during spring training. McClendon said the injuries to Iwakuma (finger) and Walker (shoulder) will open up chances for others in camp, but also leave a rotation that had questions entering spring training even more uncertain. "I always plan for the worst and our contingency plan has been that," McClendon said. "So like I said before this gives other guys opportunities to go out and see what they can do. Well see what happens." Iwakuma will have his right middle finger in a splint for another three weeks before throwing, while Walker is being shut down for a week because of inflammation in his right shoulder. By the time the duo make up for missed time on the mound it will be early- to mid-April before either is expected in a game. While Seattle is understandably cautious with the sore shoulder of the 21-year-old Walker because of his age, the finger injury has become frustrating for Iwakuma. When he went to see Dr. Don Sheridan on Friday, Iwakuma had the expectation that he could start throwing on Saturday. Instead, he was told to avoid throwing for three more weeks. The earliest Iwakuma is expected to pick up a ball is March 21. By the time he gets caught up on bullpen sessions and simulated games to get the needed innings to be ready for the season, itll likely be mid-April before he could join the Mariners rotation. "I was honestly disappointed and frustrated too at the same time, but you have to respect what the doctor says," Iwakuma said through an interpreter Saturday morning. "I was ready to play catch today so it is what it is and I have to wait three more weeks." Iwakuma went 14-6 with a 2.66 ERA in 33 starts last season and was a finalist for the AL Cy Young Award. Iwakuma reported for spring training wearing the splint and said his finger got caught as he tried to retrieve a ball in some netting while working out in Southern California on Jan. 20. McClendon also confirmed -- not surprisingly -- that Felix Hernandez is expected to be Seattles opening day starter when the Mariners open the season on March 31 against the Angels. "Unless youve got somebody else," McClendon joked. "Ill try and see if he can go opening day, the second day and the third day." Heath Miller Jersey . The post-season, Pierce said repeatedly, is no time to panic. And the Heat, apparently, are nothing to fear. Troy Polamalu Jersey .28 for a combined time of 1:14.70, also an Olympic record. Lee won the gold medal, defending her title from the Vancouver Games. http://www.cheapsteelersjerseysonline.c ... sey-online. On Wednesday night, they showed that stellar defence and a little small ball can get the job done too. With pinch-runner Kevin Pillar aboard after Dioner Navarro opened the bottom of the ninth with a single, Anthony Gose dropped down an excellent bunt along the first-base line. Jerome Bettis Jersey . The Oilers will try to get back in the win column on Monday when they continue a four-game road trip with a battle against the Buffalo Sabres. Edmonton won its third straight game last Wednesday against visiting San Jose, beating the Sharks 3-0 as Scrivens stopped 59 shots to set an NHL record for saves in a regular-season shutout. Jack Lambert Jersey . Riethers apparent stamp on Manchester United midfielder Adnan Januzaj during Saturdays Premier League match at Craven Cottage was missed by the match officials. A three-man panel of former referees reviewed the incident and all agreed that it was a sending-off offence. As Canada basks in a second consecutive gold medal in mens hockey at the Olympic Games, one question remains to be asked; who will be remembered as the teams most valuable player? Perhaps the most obvious choice is goaltender Carey Price, who allowed just three goals against in five games and posted consecutive shutouts in the semifinal and gold medal games. Price also posted the longest shutout sequence since 1960 at 164:19 minutes. He stopped a combined 55 shots in Canadas final two games and 70 of 71 shots in Canadas three elimination games, allowing only a breakaway goal to Lauris Darzins of Latvia. For his efforts, Price was named best goalkeeper by the tournament directorate. Prices outstanding play is marred only by the extremely strong defensive play of Canadas top six defencemen; Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester. Weber and Doughty, considering their play on defence and offence could also be deserving of the teams MVP. Doughty, playing in his second career Olympics, scored four goals in the tournament for Canada, including the teams only two goals in their overtime win over Finland in the preliminary round. In total, Doughty notched six points in six games, tied for the team lead with Weber. Doughty was also the only Canadian named to the tournament all-star team by the media at Sochi 2014. Weber, who scored twice for Canada at Vancouver 2010, scored three goals at Sochi 2014.dddddddddddd His biggest goal came in the form of a game-winner in the third period of Canadas quarter-final match against Latvia. Weber also notched the most ice-time of any player on Team Canada, totalling 131 minutes. Doughty was third on the team with 115:05 minutes logged. A major storyline for the Canadian team at Sochi was their inability to generate scoring from their forwards. Of Canadas 17 goals, seven goals came from Doughty and Weber, while Jamie Benn and Jeff Carter were the only forwards to score multiple goals for the team. Carter scored a hat-trick in Canadas 6-0 rout of Austria and led all Canadian forwards with five points. Benn scored in the teams opening game against Norway and scored the lone goal in Canadas 1-0 win over the United States in the semifinals. With the lack of offence generated by forwards and the impact made by two of Canadas defensive superstars, very few players have strong statistic cases for the teams MVP. Captain Sidney Crosby and alternate captain Jonathan Toews both scored in Canadas 3-0 gold medal victory over Sweden and led all forwards with 98:42 and 103:51 minutes, respectively. However, both players totalled just three points in Canadas six games. Given each players impact, who do you believe was Team Canadas most valuable player at Sochi 2014? As always, its Your! Call.
